Flip Mino Review
The Flip Mino is a great, great piece of equiptment for on the go video capture, and better still perfect for youtube, the quality of the video produced from the Flip Mino for such a compact small object is purely amazing and for a great price at that. Its much smaller and lighter than your average video recorder and camera, the video is sharp, skin colours come out as they should, unlike some recorders like the Kodak Zi6, there is some noise in the recordings, the frame rate is recorded at 30 fps which is good, it doesn’t seem to drop frames. The packaging is nice, you get all your essentials that is need to run, view and upload videos.
Features:
- Built in storage – up to 60 minutes worth of its high resolution.
- Built in USB adapter for transferring your files to your computer – the software works on mac/pc.
- You have the ability to watch it on your T.V through the composite cables that are included.
- Simple Navigation buttons – Play, Volume, Back>Forward and Delete.
- The ability to mount it on a simple twist-on tripod.
- A small 1.5″x1″ LCD screen for video playback and to see what you are recording.
- Speakers for video playback
- 2x Digital zoom
The Flip Mino is universal in many, many ways, it can be used for things such as; Youtube, Blogs, Family Movies and much more. The feature of the composite cables are great if you all want to see it as the LCD screen is too small to watch the video to its full potential, however I have noticed that when watching it through the T.V, and your T.V is widescreen or at a fair size the video does become somewhat pixelated. However on the other hand for stuff such as youtube 640×480 the quality looks great, crisp and clear.
Some down sides of the Flip is that the storage is not removable, if you were able to put in your own SD memory card in would be ideal, so you would be able to have more videos or a longer video and take spare memory cards. Also a rechargeable battery, like in mobiles with an AC adapter with USB charge able capability would be nice – this is due to the fact that it runs on replaceable batteries, however they do seemed to have lasted along time through frequent use, so the Flip is also energy efficient.
They come in two generic colours, the black and the white and also they are designable, this means that you can make a design, on Photoshop for example, using the dimensions and template – they will then make that, stick it on the back of the Flip and send it to you all ready equipped with you design, however I do believe that this is of an extra cost. None the less still a cool, fun little feature.
Overall you can’t go wrong with the Flip Mino, if you need a reliable, compact video recorder for a good price then this is for you, you can now get the Flip Mino HD, for $60 dollars more, for that you get better quality of video, more storage and capability of HD. The Flip Brand is great, I highly recommend in investing into one, you won’t be disappointed.
